Reference images
All tests use the same fixed set of synthetic reference images. No real photos, no social media images. This ensures that scores are comparable across tools and across time.
Criteria
Five weighted criteria: privacy and data handling (30%), output quality (25%), pricing and value (20%), speed and queue times (15%), support and transparency (10%). Weights are fixed and do not vary between tools. This is a structural constraint, not a suggestion.
Pricing
Prices are those published by the provider at the time of testing. A provider that does not publish prices is scored 'absent' and loses points, rather than guessing an 'approximately'. Free tiers are noted positively, but their limits are taken into account.
Conditions
Conditions are read, not tested. What is written is scored, what is not written is scored 'absent'. Vague policies do not become clear at the time of a dispute.
Revenue
Revenue comes from affiliate links. Visitors pay no more for this, and the affiliate link does not enter any weight in the ranking. We include tools for which we do not earn a commission. This is a structural constraint, not a marketing choice.
Threshold
A tool below 3 stars does not appear in the catalogue, regardless of its visibility. This is a quality gate, not a popularity contest. A tool with 10,000 downloads but a 2-star score is not in the catalogue.
Responsible use
- Use only your own photos or those of adults who have given explicit written consent.
- AI-generated images must be labelled as synthetic and never presented as real (EU AI Act, Art. 50).
- Tools that process images of celebrities are not in the catalogue, regardless of output quality.
- If published without consent, the Penal Code (art. 226-1, 226-4) applies. Contact the CNIL or file a complaint.
- Delete local images after download. Tool servers may retain them longer than their policy suggests.
